So you've seen poi and know you want some, but with all the choices, the decision of what to get can be hard. We'll try to help you out.
First you need to decide if you want glow poi or fire poi.
Glow poi have the advantage that they can be used almost anywhere and are safer than fire poi. The are appropriate for kids and you don't have to worry about getting a fire permit. Glow is great for practice and most fire performers will have a set of glow poi as a backup for when they have to do a show where fire is not allowed. If you desire a large selection of colors to play with, glow poi may be for you. Glow poi are a good alternative to disposable glow sticks.
For some people, there is no substitute for fire. Fire poi are much more dramatic then glow. There is something magical about controlling a fire ball. When you perform with fire, you are taking it to the next level. You need a solid understanding of fire safety and need to be proficient with your poi, before you light up. If you are putting on a show, most people will want fire if the venue allows it. If you want your performance to be magical, fire can add that touch.
We offer 2 types of glow poi:
Oggz Poi: These have the advantage of being rechargeable with built in batteries. They come with a charging base and everything you need to get going. Oggz Poi cycle through the whole rainbow of colors and have a pleasing strobing effect while spinning. They are soft whick makes them unlikely to hurt you if you hit yourself. The batteries in the Oggz last a long time, but are not replaceable, so make sure you have them charged before using. There is only the one color mode.
Flowlight Poi: Flowlights were designed from the ground up for spinning. They are available in different color combinations. The colors do not change, but they have 11 different strobing modes that offer some amazing light shows. Flowlight are made from high impact plastic with durable electronics. They use one AAA battery each, which is included.
We offer 4 types of fire poi:
Cathedral Wicked Poi: This is your standard poi. Most fire performers own a pair of these. They are simple, durable and easy to use. Most people start with a poi set that has a single 2" wick head. As you become more experienced, you can switch to 3" poi heads, or used multiple wick heads one one chain. If you are new to fire poi, start with a set of 2" cathedral poi and go to more fire when you get more experience.
Canon Ball Poi: Cannon Balls offer huge fire and a really cool tail effect as they spin through the air. These are not for the beginner. These put off a lot of heat and need to keep moving. If you are looking for a big fire ball to spice up your next performance, then they're just what the doctor ordered.
Snake Poi: Snake poi offer big fire because of the large surface area. Because of their length, they can create a wall of fire effect when spun. Because the wick is close to your hands with snakes, they must keep moving to keep from burning your hands. We also offer them with a poi head on the end of the snake. This adds some more weight to the end of the snakes and give you a bit more fire. Snake poi are sometimes referred to as rope poi because they are sometimes made form kevlar rope. We find rope does not give a very bright burn, so all of our shakes a made from a highly absorbent hybrid wick. If you like cathedral poi, but want big streaks if fire, this is the next logical step.
Paint Can Poi: If you want big fire in a unique tool, paint cans are the answer. The gallon paint cans are the largest poi we offer. When size maters, these are the winners.
