2011 Fire Photo Contest Winners

1st Place:
 Exuro - Minneapolis, US

Ok, we know what you're going to say. Where's the spinning, right? Well... see above...and read on. In all the years this contest has run, there have really been no pictures that did more than raise an eyebrow to their epic coolness. Emotional response is a big deal to us, and if you know Grimm, you know that a laugh can go a long way in our book. Our laughing lasted until we changed the picture, and resumed as soon as we came back. The picture in question is of course the "fire engine ride", in which Exuro oozes with excitement, fire in hand while the fire truck takes off. The pose has a sort of implied kinetic energy, and while the truck is not moving it looks as though he's holding on for dear life. The goofy smile is pure win, and this just BEGS to become a demotivator poster.... or 12...
Somehow, "You're doin' it wrong" just doesn't cut it. Thanks for the laugh, it was about time...

2nd Place:
 Brenn - Australia

White knuckle action is a sure crowd pleaser, and this dude had it! I mean of course the black and white "jumper" photo. We found ourselves staring at this picture, trying to find out what was making the fire, and praying for his naughty bits. DISCLAIMER: No naughty bits were harmed in the making of this photo. So yeah, he's just jumping over some fire... but it was the raw energy that captured our attention, and the inevitable wondering of how he got into that position, and whether he needed stitches afterward....

 3rd Place

Alissa Nordstrom - California, US

Now, this photo captures the essence of "new and interesting".... See, there's this girl we know. She's a robot. She's not the cutest, but she knows how to spin, and that's enough for us! And for extra difficulty, I challenge you to spin fire while someone welds a hunk of steel to the back of your neck. This chick is a bonafide hard@$$, and probably the most original submission we have seen in the entire life of this contest. Also, bonus for the live art. It was nice to see a welded sculpture in progress. You can tell this guy is into his art, why else would he hang with such an ugly girl?

Honorable Mentions

Roots - California, US

This pic was a favorite of the group, and barely missed the cut. Simple, but beautiful. The silhouette is lovely, and the fire is visible in the daylight, heat warping the view of the clouds.

Josh Gosell - PyroKlectic - California, US

The colors, Duke, the colors! This photo has so much warm/cool contrast, it's impossible not to notice. Bonus for the clean staff spin-off...

Glitter Girl - California, US

So. Pretty. Gawsh. The colors are amazing, and the reflecting pool is niiiice. Also, the one taken in the wind was neat, you can almost feel the icy  S.F. breeze...
